Amplifier usage and set up -
Amplifier types and capabilities

Offered for sale by almost every manufacturer imaginable you will find three different varieties of mobile audio amplifiers. The first variety to be discussed here is multi-channel amps. Multi-channel meaning they will either be four or five channels of audio output from the amplifier....most commonly four. What can you do with a four channel amp? Well, in a fairly simple set-up one four-channel amplifier can power all the speakers in your car at once! Or, you can bridge those four channels into two much higher-powered channels and drive even LARGER speakers!

Amp usage is dependant purely on your particular needs. Almost every amp is capable of more than one configuaration. It's up to you to figure out A) What are my needs? and B)Is this amplifier up to the task that I am asking of it?

Something to make note of when configuring your amplifier after installation is the minimum impedence load (measured in Ohms) that the amplifier is capable of using safely. The vast majority of amplifiers are capable of handling a 4 Ohm load when bridged and as low as a 2 Ohm load when run in stereo. After wiring all those speakers together what Ohm load are you presenting to your amplifier? Here's a handy table to figure it out easily - http://www.crutchfieldadvisor.com/learningcenter/car/S-KpOGxkqcAnG/subwoofers_wiring.html
